MEMORIAL DAY FITTINGLY OBSERVED HERE
extracted from the Crawford Weekly Mirror June,1922

Grand Opening Of Wildwood Springs Resort Attracts Tremendous Crowd. Memorial Day, 1922 will long be remembered as one of the outstanding dates in Crawford county's history.

Not only was Memorial Day fittingly observed, but the grand opening of Wildwood Springs held in conjunction with memorial services, brought to Steelville and Wildwood so many out town visitors that altogether about 2500 people were on the grounds for the twofold event.

The affair opened with a street parade that was pronounced by many spectators as the best ever witnessed in this county. Music was furnished for the occasion by the Steelville band and the Wildwood Springs orchestra.

There was an old fashioned barbecue and picnic, dancing and unique contests of various kinds. The memorial address was delivered by Hon. Wm. J. Underwood, Mayor of Steelville. He made a splendid talk and was heartily applauded repeatedly.
