2012 Wildwood Concert Series
Wildwood
was built during the " Roaring 20's" by men of dreams.
These men dreamed of building a magnificent, commodious, modern
resort hostel. They dreamed of bringing their children
out to hunt or fish on the 2000 acres that encompassed the surrounding
wild country. They dreamed of gathering during the evening for
an elegant dinner served on white tablecloths, with fine china
and dressed in their finest. They dreamed of dancing the nights
away listening to Wildwood own orchestra. They dreamed of the
magic of music..
Wildwood
set idle for years, nestled in the Ozark hills like a beautiful
sleeping giant. After reopening the lodge a few years ago, I wanted
to bring back the magic of music to "The Wildwood".
Fortunately, I met Tom Shipley of Brewer & Shipley, and since
then the tradition of music has returned. A friend said to me,"Why
not more?". I took her to heart, and the annual Wildwood
Fall Concert Series was born. Since then, artists like the legendary
rock & roll man Johnnie Johnson, Doc
Watson, Dave Mason, Taj Mahal, America, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Arlo Guthie, The Flatlanders, Hot Tuna, Tony Rice, John Hammond, Pure Prarie League,
Richie Havens, Vassar Clements, Leo Kottke bluegrass
icon and friend of Wildwood, John Hartford, Mickey
Thomas, the signature voice of Jefferson Starship, and many, many
more have performed at Wildwood.
A getaway at Wildwood has
been compared to a week-end at Grandma's house. Concert day, guests
arrive, get settled in, and relax until dinner time....6pm sharp!
Just like Grandma's house, everyone eats their hearty, homestyle
mealtogether, in the spacious, old fashioned dining room. Don't
get too full, homemade desert and coffee come next! There's no
need to rush a good thing, and remember
my motto "You're here to relax!". While everyone is
enjoying dinner, our staff is busy rearranging the lobby, adjusting
the sound system, and building a roaring fire in the grand old
stone fireplace. For the convenience of our guests, we have a
full service bar, open for the duration of the performance.
